Week 6: Color

This camel advertisement uses color very well. First of all, nobody usually associates the warm color red (and also pink) with cigarettes, so this friendly and catchy advertisement will stand out among the competition. Along with the curly font, the advertisement looks more feminine than other cigarette ads I've seen. By incorporating blue in one spot on the ad: (the right box), the blue stands out. According to The Color & Design Blog, any 3 neighboring colors on a color wheel go well together. Red and blue are neighbors (separated only by purple). Also, in the textbook pages posted on the blog, red and blue appear together in a lot of the different color combinations that they list. By diluting the red in the advertisement, the message isn't as aggressive as it would have been if the shade of red was darker. A funny irony is the fact that infants prefer red and blue. These are the two colors that they start identifying before all the others, and ironically, these are the only two colors in the advertisement. Subliminal messaging?
