Jen Brotman- Poster Project

After defining my desired outcome and the parameters for my poster, I decided to focus my poster on the male competition aspect behind my not-for-profit event. The not-for-profit event I chose is my sorority’s philanthropy event: Mr. Golden Anchor. The event consists of boys competing in jousting, a spelling bee, a relay race and a talent show. People pay to compete and all proceeds go to Service for Sight, Delta Gamma’s national philanthropy. My intended audiences are the boys who will be competing in the events and the people attending. I came up with the concept of the “Big Man on Campus” to support my focus. The point is that boys are competing to be the big man and you have to attend it to find out whom it will be or compete in it for it to be you. The silhouette of a college boy conveys the “Big Man” and how it is a mystery. I solved my design problem by taking a picture of a college boy and tracing him. I wanted to get the message out in a bold but simple manner. I think the big headline and the silhouette convey this well. Through the message that anyone could be the big man, Delta Gamma’s Mr. Golden Anchor is perceived as a fun and charitable event.

I chose Eurostile Lt Std as my typeface family for the poster. The headline is in various sizes of Eurostile Lt Std Bold and the subhead is in Eurostile Lt Std Demi. The information about the event is in Eurostile Lt Std Regular. I chose to stick with one typeface family because I wanted consistency throughout my poster. I also felt that a big bold sans serif would convey my message and the personality of the event. It is legible, which is important on a poster because of the quickness people will look at it.

I chose a teal blue for the background because it appeals to everyone. It allowed the headline and silhouette to pop, which is very important. The anchor is a gold color to act as a visual reminder that the event is Mr. Golden Anchor. The colors tie the visuals and text together.
