Week 6: Allure of Color - Jordan Clifford

This article shows a really good use of color and gestalt. Using a bright warm color like orange draws the viewer’s eye and gets them to look at the ad. The catchy phrase-line makes you want to read the small print. There is also a gestalt playing to the rule of similarity. The designer picked up the orange from the accents on the shoe and carried it the background. Then to enhance the visual he/she added a lighter orange-yellow backlight and a darker shadow underneath the shoe for dimension.

Overall I think it works - great use of color and color choice plus an inventive catch phrase. People are always saying that certain things “aren’t rock science” and by playing this up and saying the opposite Nike draws you in.
