Gestalt Closure: Michael Boren

The gestalt principle of closure is used very well in this movie poster for the Godfather. Even though we can't see all of the man's tuxedo because it fades into the black background, we can still make out the outlines of his tuxedo. You could still clearly see the size of it and how it fits the body. Also, the rose is slightly shadowed into the black of the tuxedo, but we can still make it out to be a rose. The rose is also not exactly fully formed in the movie poster, but we can still make out it's a rose. We can recognize both the black outlining of the tuxedo and the rose, because our minds still make out complete figures even if part of that figure is missing. That's what the principle of closure states.
