Week 5: Gestalt Ad-Alyssa Hillman

This Diet Coke Plus ad correctly uses the rule of closure. Closure is when "items grouped together seem to complete an entity"(Knight). The four soda cans are in the shape of a plus sign, which is the products name, Diet Coke PLUS. Although there are no actual lines and the plus sign is not completely filled in, because of Gestalts' principle, the audience is left to see (and remember) the plus sign.
The ad's headline also plays off of the principle with the witty "thinking" reference. It does the same with "positive" which then directs even more attention to the almost-there plus sign.
On the down side, I believe this product is no longer being manufactured, so in this case, I am not sure that the Gestalt principle did its best in this Coca Cola Ad.
