Jen Brotman- Gestalt Prinicple

When I saw this advertisement in Cosmopolitan, I saw many positive uses of the gestalt principle. The gestalt principle states that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. In the case of this advertisement the image is used to create a word, which is then completed with letters. The image alone without the text next to it or vice versa would leave a reader lost. Similarly the body copy completes the explanation of the image and text. There is also similarity and repetition used with the color purple as seen in the image and some of the text. There is also simplicity with just one image and a nice use of white space. The advertisement as a whole does a good job of communicating to the reader about a new relaxing face wash.
