Design Strategy:

My design approach was to concentrate on keeping an upbeat and cheery design. The Rainbow Classic is a basketball game between the rival schools in my town that benefits the local children’s hospital. It was important to me to convey the central community feel. Although this game is about competition it is more about both the schools coming together for a good cause.

Since the game is so well known the main points I wanted to make were: a strong image, inform regarding where the tickets are sold, and refocus the community on knowing that in the end this game is about the children at Strong Hospital.

Typeface Choice:

The markerfelt typeface family was used throughout my design. I used the two variances in type (thin and wide) to create emphasis when needed, but also keep consistency throughout. I favored this typeface family because it has a young, fun feel while still being bold and playful. I thought it was perfect for my poster because it gave emphasis and attracted attention while still being readable.

Color:

I chose red to be the main color in my poster because the logo of Golisano Children’s Hospital is red. I put the visual in red along with the title of the event and the ticket information because I found these three aspects of the poster the most important. Since red is a warm color it comes forward to the eye and attracts initial attention. The reason I chose blue to use for the text in the headline and the main type because it is a primary color. Using two primary colors created a youthful, childlike feel to the poster. The quick burst of light yellow in the logo (bottom left corner) completes the primary colors in the poster.
