Bad Advertisement: Michael Boren

This was a poster hanging up outside of our classroom. What catches my attention is the 'MARK THE DATE' font in yellow. The design element doesn't work, because the font appears to have come from a cheap, computer game. Or what some might see as the font in the Pac-Man game. This type looks cheap and takes the quality out of what could potentially be a good magazine. The type is way out of synch with the rest of the page, which uses a typeface that is more pleasantly aesthetic to the eyes. To improve the display type on the page, 'MARK THE DATE' should use a font similar to that of the magazine's name on the bottom. That creates more consistency and steadiness on the page, which makes it easier for the reader to view. Also, the color should be changed to something darker, which would make it consistent with the darker, gray theme of the ad. Something such as black would still jump out at the reader's eyes, but in a less obnoxious way.
