Week 11: Usability

Next semester I will be traveling to Australia to study at the University of Queensland. With my recent acceptance to the program, I have been non-stop perusing the website and trying to get my trip in order. This is a picture of the homepage for international students (aka ME!!) at UQ, and it is extremely simple to use!

On the top right corner, there are 8 quick links that will easily take me to any important destination on the entire UQ website, including the regular homepage, important contact information, the academic page (course list, etc.), and UQ news.

Below that, there is a black bar with more quick links, that will take me anywhere in the international students section. For example, one of the quick links is "application information," which I used to fill out my UQ application a few weeks ago. If someone happens to miss that black bar, there are a few maroon boxes underneath the picture, and "How to apply" and "Submit application" are two options.

The good thing about the website is that everything is repeated. This ensures that you don't miss out on any important information! It also emphasizes the fact that they are very accepting of all different cultures. You can see all the different country flags on the bottom right, and you can read the website information in a language other than English if need be.

All the basic information I need before I leave the USA is easily located on this one website...so it makes for a simple way to keep track of everything that I need to do. For example, the courses I can take, the visa and passport information, and the living accommodation requirements are all on this one page.

Overall, this is a very usable and simple website to use, and I hope this means I'll have an easy time getting to Australia :)
