The Creative Column technique that I found the most interesting was definitely the first one. It is ironic that disharmony is praised in this technique, when the use of grids is typically in order to make sure that things are orderly and coordinated. When setting up grids in InDesign or other programs, we are taught how to do it so that they are equally aligned with one another. White space is good to put in some parts of the grid, however, I never would have guessed that having things displaced would be a technique that is praised and suggested. In the example I have posted from the Daily Candy website, we see orderly grids without any disharmony. They look neat, clean, and symmetric. The design style, both typographic and colors, repeats itself on the different parts of the grids, and it makes for a very harmonized look. However, I do agree that by changing parts of the grid, interest is added for the audience. If in the second image, "Food & Drink" was right-justified on the screen rather than left-justified, it would make the audience have to look more closely. By making the audience work, rather than have everything strategically placed right before them, it might make them more inclined to click some of the links!
