Binta Jammeh- Grids

The magazine spread I found exemplifies the column techniques of illustrating areas and energizing spaces. In terms of illustrating areas, on the right side of the spread, each illustration is created using a different number of grids assembled to complete each picture. The grids are outlined by thick white lines which further help in setting them off from other elements in the spread ( i.e., text boxes). On the left side of the spread, the illustration of the divers is set off from the ice caps and the mountains in the background.

In terms of energizing spaces, the illustrations add an element of asymmetry since they are different sizes and utilizing slightly different color pallets. The text boxes also add to the asymmetrical feel of the spread since they are different sizes and use slightly different color pallets as well. On the left hand of the spread, the image of the divers, mountains and ice caps are all different sizes, setting each off from the other within the space of the spread.
