Grids: Taylor Miller

Here, the graphic designer for "Upscale" magazine decided to use pull-quotes, part of #4's "Escaping Boundries." The use of the pull quote here really puts emphasis on the quote, which obviously was important in both the article and the art direction for the article. It also leads the eye down the column, and really gives a nice flow to the page. By putting it in a black column, the designer contrasted the white background of the picture, but still stayed in the black & white composition of the photograph. I really think the use of the pull-quote is effective in this piece and it would catch my eye even if I didn't read the entire article.
