Website Usability - Emilia Wojdylak

The Website for the Syracuse Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics is an example of a website not so well designed. The first thing that draws my attention is the list of languages in the box. Because they all vary in font, color, and style the viewer's eye jumps all over the box. It is difficult to read without being distracted by the other parts of the list and is not very organized. Color also poses an issue with the headings in the top bar of the website that are meant to lead to other specified categories of the website. I am not sure if the first and second line of headings are meant to differ in importance, but because the second line is white it is carries more emphasis. Overall, the organization of all the type on the page is confusing in terms of highlighting importance. I think it would be more effective if the title was above all the other information except maybe the navigation headings. Also it would be more clear if the label "undergraduate programs, graduate programs, etc." for the list of languages was above rather than to the side of the list. In general, the layout could be more spread out throughout the webpage and needs some help in organization to guide the viewer.
