Justin Shapiro: Grid

This article comes from one of my favorite magazines that I read at home, Juxtapoz. It's sort of an obscure art/music/media form for probably the demographic of 17-25-year-olds. The layout of the entire magazine has a very asymmetrical vibe to it, having a lot of interesting formats of columns, grids, and other inserts to the magazine. This article took a 3 column approach, although only two of the columns include text. I like the way it was laid out though because it doesn't have a particular standard to any pieces on this single page. The three columns are each of different widths. The two columns of text are not only different widths, but also different lengths as well. There is a great hierarchy from the top left corner of the page, flowing down to the bottom right as you read the article and the pictures genuinely intrigue the readers' eyes. A really significant part of the article is the fact that the writer used a pull quote right in the beginning that stands out and challenges the reader to keep on reading. All in all, I think a very well laid out article and page.
