Week 5 Post: Gestalt

The picture posted is a great example of gestalt. The only color used is Black, the shape is created through the placement of black color and the white space surrounding it.

By strategic placement of the black spikes in a circular shape, the image of a ball is created. This design uses several of the gestalt principles. First, it uses closure, because the shape isn't actually enclosed or touching. Second, it uses Proximity. Because the spikes are placed close to each other, viewers look at the group of spikes as one image. Figure and Ground is definitely used here as well, the black shapes and white space in the background.
