Yahoo is a site that I frequently visit. I find the website to be a good examply of visual hierarchy. As a search website, the most important aspect is the actual searching. The search bar grabs viewers attention first, because it is centrally located at the top of the page. The search box is also surrounded by the two brightest images on the page, the Yahoo! logo and the search button itself.
The second example of hierarchy is the Yahoo! logo. The image is big and set alone on the left hand side of the page, top corner. As we learned in class, the top left corner is the first place viewers will look when looking at a page. Obviously, Yahoo! company wants as many people as possible to see their logo, so they did a good job using visual hierarchy.
The third and final example of hierarchy is the third item that draws your attention, the news picture accompanying the headlines in the center of the page. The hierarchy here is achieved through size. The picture is the largest image on the page, so naturally people will look at it, and depending on how effective the photo is, read the accompanying headline.
