Elena Carroll- Honest To Blog

This graphics class is one of the most challenging I have taken so far at Syracuse. Coming to college, I never took a single computer class, and never even owned my own computer until I came here. This obviously made this class very difficult and intimidating, and needless to say I was terrified to begin the class. I surprisingly enjoyed the projects, and enjoyed learning all the programs. I found myself not thinking of the projects as "work," and when my assignments were going to my liking, I had fun. However, I experienced many frustrations, and even questioned my creativity. This course made me think and view everything differently. I now notice typography and kerning on signs and magazine ads. I can also look at graphic designs and know how they were made, and even what program they were done in.
I did experience my fair share of melt downs, and even felt frustrated enough to give up. I know am very proud of myself for almost completing the course though. I can say with confidence, I went from hardly being able to work Microsoft Word, to making my own poster, logo, and even magazine. Now that this class is wrapping up, I'm almost sad to not have any more projects to show or finish. I wish I could know more, and am even interested in taking another graphics class, even though I was convinced I would despise the class. I have learned more in this class than I have in many other classes, and I feel as though the information is vital and important for any person going to major in anything in communications. All in all, graphics was not as scary as I thought, and I'm very glad I was required to take it.
