Design: I wanted this website to have a unified theme with my poster, so I incorporated elements from that design into the website. I used the cans from the poster as my navigation links, and for the active link I used a change in color and the orange ribbon for hunger awareness. I used the same bowl I drew for the poster on the home page and on other pages as well. I chose not to make it part of the Header because it was awkward and didn’t fit well.
I only used four links, but there are three pages for the third link, sign up. I decided to make this a multi-step process because I thought it made the experience more interactive and fun. On step one, the three bowls are buttons and the type turns orange when you click on it. The rectangles to the right are also buttons that turn orange when you click on them. When you proceed to the next page the bowl you chose appears, and you fill in the information. The third step, “Fill your bowl,” is a page that tells the user how to promote their drive and build excitement about the event, including a download of my poster.
I used grey rectangles as containers for information throughout, and sometimes to signify buttons. The ones that say things like “check out the documentary” and “get the facts” are links to the other pages on the website.
Typefaces: I chose the Futura typeface family for all of my type. I thought that it’s classy, readable, and fun. Futura condensed looks really good in all capitals, which I use throughout. I used the condensed bold for some bowls and in the header that says the name of the event. For regular text I used Futura medium, and for contrast in the headings I used Condensed medium.
Colors: The background color comes from the light blue background/sky in my poster. I created a texture using and image of stacked cans, which I adjusted to be black and white. I also increased the exposure and brightness to make it lighter.
I used dark grey for the text because with the lightness of the background and the white container, black had too much contrast. I used orange, the color of hunger awareness for various headers and for my active links. I used a medium blue for contrast with other headings.

ReplyDeleteReally nice job with your web design. All of your pages flow wonderfully together thanks to the repetition of your template. The colors you used were very pleasing and make your design pop out. Although you only used on type family, the different weights and postures in Futura allowed you to diversify your type, making the website look very clean and readable and interesting at the same time. Your layout is clean, easy to navigate, and very well done. Nice job.
This was definitely my favorite out of all of the designs. Your interface looks like it could be a real website. The way that everything flows is really great. I like that it is really clean and simple; it reminds me a lot of how Apple would design a website or something. I like your choice of colored text and how you use color to break up what you want to say. I also like how created the whole bowl thing is. Really nice job!
