Overall, I really enjoyed GRA 217. It didn't really come all that hard to me because I love doing Graphics, and I have been familiar with Photoshop and InDesign for awhile now. For me, all of the projects weren't really work as much as they were something I liked doing. I love doing creative stuff, so this class was the perfect outlet for me.
I think my favorite project was the magazine. It really showed me why I love doing graphics. I love the way you can make pictures and text and visuals all come together. I also really enjoyed the logo project, because I really liked my design and I can see me using it in the future for my resume and business cards.
I think the hardest thing for me was getting out the of habit of just going to the computer andstarting my design. It was hard to get into the routine of actually sketching things out and then designing them. I have to say though that it actually helped me in the end and I found my designs became a lot better after I went through a bunch of ideas on my sketchpad.
I think GRA 217 was the one class that I didn't really mind going to. The only thing that I didn't like about the class was sometimes the examples were repetitive and got to be too much(like that one slideshow that was like 50 images of examples.) Other then that though the class was really fun. Plus I loved the constructive criticism we got in class, both from Professor Taylor and my classmates. I am the type of person that doesn't want people to sugarcoat what they think. I want criticism, because in the end it will just make my project better. I really enjoyed those sheets we filled out in class too.
This class has made me contemplate switching my major to graphics, but I think I am going to stick with photography. I really wish there was a dual major I could do with both because I really had a great time in this class. It has given me a lot of great work for my portfolio, and a lot of things I can use when I leave Syracuse.
